“If you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine in my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all others.
….and then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. But you have hair that is the color of gold. Think of how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me!
The grain, which is golden, will bring me back to the thought of you. And I will listen to the wind in the wheat….
The fox gazed at the little prince, for a long time.
“Please – tame me!” He said.
(the little prince)
Mr. Fox is saying ‘tame,’ but he means love.
He means, if you love me, I will know the sound of your steps
as a sacred ringing in my own heart, the whisper of Beloved,
the call to prayer, to bend my knees in gratitude.
He means, if you love me, all is see will be your love,
your flowing hair, the swaying wheat,
I will see you, inherent in everything,
all will be your love flowing through us both.
He means, if you love me, I will live that love.
I will waken early to listen to your breath
I will race the sun to see you smile
I will lay down early to be inside you
He means, if you love me, really truly love me,
My racing heart will rest in you
My body will lay bedside your body
And I will be yours
